Su centro de operaciones era el Aeropuerto Olaya Herrera de la ciudad de Medellín, desde donde operaba rutas nacionales en Antioquia y en departamentos vecinos. Fue constituida en el año de 1987 para el servicio de vuelos chárter. En el año 2002 pasó a operar vuelos regulares desde Medellín. En el año 2019 aunque la compañía no fue clausurada, los directivos decidieron cesar las operaciones dadas las condiciones financieras adversas.

The carrier mostly flies domestic routes in Perú from its base in Lima, as well as Santiago, Chile. The airline was established in May 24, 1998 as Servicio de Transporte Aéreo Regional by the chief executive, Valentin Kasyanov. Operations were inaugurated with a single Antonov An-32 flying cargo and charter services around South America. In May 2019, Star Perú ended the operation of its BAe 146. For the destinations on which the Boeing 737 cannot land in.

AeroGal was founded in November 1985 by the Ecuadorian businessman Carlos Serrano Lusetti, with the objective of offering air transportation of passengers and cargo in Continental Ecuador and in the Galapagos Archipelago. It began operating with 2 Dornier Do 28 aircraft with capacity for 12 passengers each. In October 2009, AeroGal announced its merger with the Colombian airline Avianca, and the Salvadoran airline TACA. With the merger, the company expanded its connections to Europe. It also merged with VIP Ecuador, being the first Ecuadorian company of this firm, the codes shared with this airline are still preserved in Aerogal's image, but since it merged with AviancaTaca, the airline is part of the same company. Avianca made an investment of US $7.2 million to strengthen and modernize the company. Despite the purchase by Avianca, AeroGal continued using its separate identity until June 18, 2014, when the airline Avianca Ecuador, and continues to operate in Ecuador. On June 18, 2014, AeroGal was renamed under the brand Avianca Ecuador, but the official name was not changed accordingly until in early 2018, when the company was officially renamed to Avianca Ecuador S.A.

The airline was headquartered at the Miraflores District in the capital city of the country. Completely state-owned, the carrier operated scheduled domestic passenger and cargo services from its main base at Jorge Chávez International Airport. In January 2006 the airline's license was suspended by the Peruvian Government.

Esta aeronave llamada ′′ Ciudad de Sucre ′′ era bien conocida en Bolivia, ya que era el primer avión en la flota de Lloyd Aereo Boliviano y una fuente de orgullo nacional.
